A scarf that I knit many years ago for my father, Stan Hayes, is the inspiration for Stan's Scarf. Dad liked having a wool scarf to wrap around his shoulders to keep his neck warm.  The Stan Scarf has stripes on both ends and was a deep brown color with gold stripes.  Those colors worked with the plaid shirts that Dad wore and gave him a spiffed up look in his later years.

The look has been updated with basic stripes in neutral colors.  That's the Stan's Standard variation.

Then there's the Stan's Pride version that draws on the Roy G. Biv (ROYGBIV) colors of the rainbow menomic -- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.

Each variation has a garter stitch end and seven set of stripes with 24 rows of solid ribbed pattern stitch.

Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Worsted, 4oz (113 gram) -- 190 yards per skein. Two skeins -- one main color and one contrast. Stan's Standard sample uses M02 Brown Heather as the main color and M01 Sandy Heather as the contrast.

Needles: US #9 (5.5mm)

Gauge: 4 stitches per inch on US #9 needle

Notions: Bent tip yarn needle, like a Clover Chibi, for working in the ends; small scissors, and locking marker

Wanda's designer comments:

The ribbed pattern stitch shapes comfortably around the shoulders. One long edge of the scarf curls inward while the second edge curls outward. This curl is what makes the scarf sit well around the neck.

I hope you enjoy this pattern.  The scarf is an easy knit that's fun and quick.
