PATTERN DOWNLOAD: Canyon Walk Hat
Canyon Walk Hat combines stockinette, ribbing, and reverse stockinette for a stitch pattern with rich texture.
Not as snug as a beanie, this hat still hugs the head, yet retains a bit of stretch. This hat is easy knitting.
Yarn: One 100 gram (3.5 to 4 oz) skein of worsted weight
Needles: 16" circular, US #5 (3.75mm) for ribbing, 16" circular, US #7 (4.5mm) for body and crown of hat. Set of US #7 double pointed needles for crown decreases
Notions: split or lock ring markers; bent tip yarn needle
Optional: Eucalan Wool Wash
Wanda's designer notes:
Most worsted weight yarns should knit up well in this design. A 100 gram skein makes one hat and you can easily knit one in a few sessions. You will use most of a single skein for one hat.
I’ve knit several Canyon Walk Hats using HiKoo Simplinatural worsted. A blend of silk, wool and alpaca, Simplinatural is a luxurious yarn that’s soft and a joy to knit. The silk adds both warmth and softness.
Several test hats were knit in HiKoo Simplinatural and Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride, all yarns that are hand wash only. We used a machine wash blend, HiKoo Simpliworsted, for testing and found that it gave varying gauges, depending on the knitter. One test knitter used HiKoo CoBaSi, a cotton/bamboo/silk blend, in the worsted weight and got great results.
