Designed with a stretchy rolled rim, ridge stitch pattern, and a perky I-cord top knot, here is a baby and toddler hat to knit using soft yarn. Written for worsted or sport yarn, this pattern uses a sixteen inch circular needle and a set of double pointed needles.
You will probably be able to knit one hat from a 50 gram skein. We suggest buying two skeins, though. Start by knitting the smaller size and keep it with your stash. You can use it as a reference hat and knit another hat to give away.
Yarn: 1 — 50 gram skein, approximately 90-120 yards of worsted or sport weight
Gauge: worsted — 5 stitches per inch; sport — 6 stitches per inch
Needles: worsted — 16″ circular, US #5 or #6; sport — 16″ circular US #4 or #5; set of double pointed needles, same size as circular.
Size birth to 12 months: 13 1/4 ” head circumference using worsted weight, OR 14 1/2″ using sport weight
Size 1-3 years: 15 1/2″ head circumference using worsted weight, OR 16 1/2″ using sport weight
