Here is a totebag that will carry a really big project. Artist Wanda Eichler’s Barn Owl I is featured on this 16″ x 16″ totebag. The owl was done in scratchboard with acrylic inks and scratching tools.
Besides being the owner of the Graywood Designs website, Wanda is an accomplished artist who holds a Certificate in Nature Illustration from the Art Institute of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. You can find more of her work on her art website, wandaeichler.com.
Wanda choose the owl for our first custom made knit/crochet bag. We like the size of this bag. You can really pack in a fairly large size knit or crochet project. The handle is long and turns this totebag into a shoulder bag. Use this bag for groceries or books, too. It’s really sturdy and makes a unique artsy gift.
The bag is 100% polyester with a black laminated lining. The handles are 28″ long and are 100% cotton. Spot or dry clean. Made in the U.S.A.
The yarn in the photograph is HiKoo Simplinatural, a blend of baby alpaca, merino wool and mulberry silk. It is a worsted weight yarn that knits up beautifully into hats, scarves, shawls, cowls, and sweaters. The colors shown in the shawl project with the Barn Owl Totebag are 002 black (opaque black), 099 grey flannel (muted light grey), and 100 slate grey (dark grey heather).
From the artist’s statement about this work:
“A close up photo of a barn owl being held by a docent at the Desert Museum is the inspiration for an acrylic inked scratchboard piece, completed under the instruction of Cathy Sheeter. The owl’s name is Night and she is a frequent model for art students and artists at the Museum. This piece tied for third place in the People’s Choice voting at one of the Student Shows at the Art Institute. It is owned by collectors from Michigan.”
